Objective
To manage the protection of copyright holders' rights according to the Copyright Act, as well as ensure smooth use of music works, and thereby contribute to the improvement and development of musical culture.
 
Background
- In early 1964 Mok-in Son, Chun-young Cho and Banyawol joined hands to form an association which would act as a "Copyright Organization." They called a meeting of promoters for the establishment of the Association on March 8 of the same year under the active cooperation and directive proposals of In-sook Chang of the Ministry of Culture and Education. Following this, an inauguration meeting was held on March 15, and in June 19 was born with the authorization for establishment of the Association from the then Ministry of Culture and Education.

- The Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), is a non-profit organization that possesses over 85,000 Korean works, and manages over 3,627 songwriters, composers, and music publishing companies..

- KOMCA is a centralized management group for music works that are protected by copyright in Korea, like ASCAP, GEMA, SACEM,worldwide. It was established with 56 members in 1964.

- KOMCA seeks to protect the rights of music copyright holders under the Korea's Copyright Act, act as an agent for the authorization and right of their uses, and ultimately contribute to the development and improvement in musical culture.

Activities
1) Activities
KOMCA manages performance/broadcasting rights and reproduction rights in Korea, its area of management. Also, KOMCA collects usage fees from people who use music works as their own repertoires, and distributes the usage fees to members according to the regulations on distribution. Also, KOMCA gives authorization of use to the following users.

3) KOMCA's Reciprocal Management Contracts with Foreign Groups
KOMCA has reciprocal management contracts with 24 groups in 23 countries regarding performance/broadcasting, and 29 groups in 31 different countries regarding reproduction.

4) International Status of KOMCA
KOMCA entered the CISAC as an associate member on April 10, 1987 and was promoted to a regular member at the General Meeting in April 1995. It also entered BIEM as an associate member on September 11, 1996. Currently KOMCA is a regular member of CISAC and an associate member of BIEM.
